Day 7 of SEA-Teacher in the Philippines

   Today, September 5, is the seventh day of the SEAMEO Southeast Asia Teacher Practicum Project in the Philippines. In the morning, I attended the welcome ceremony. Then an EHS tour to get to know the classrooms and teachers' offices in the high school. Then a campus tour to get to know the history of the buildings on campus. Then in the afternoon I had a library tour to see how the books are stored and maintained.





  

One of the challenges I faced today was the language barrier. During school activities, the languages spoken are Tagalog and English. And during the classroom and campus tour, we had a bit of trouble finding the rooms because many of the rooms and buildings are spacious.

  While at school, I was impressed by the students who were always polite. During the campus tour, I saw a lot of unique Catholic culture in the buildings. The campus area is also very unique as the oldest university in Asia.

  The experience of interacting with the teachers and students was very rewarding. Although they and I had language difficulties, we tried to learn from each other. I was amazed to see the unique cultural diversity on the buildings in the host country. I realized that culture is important to preserve as something valuable to a country.

    Overall the seventh day of the SEAMEO SEA-Teacher Project Practicum was an introduction and campus tour, I was able to learn to recognize and gain insight into the culture on campus.

Day 20 of SEA-Teacher in the Philippines

   Today, September 18, is the twentieth day of the Seameo Southeast Asia Teacher Practicum in the Philippines. Today is my teaching demo at Dignity Education High School Grade 9. The topic of today's lesson is Applied Genetics.   One of the challenges I faced today was that during the grand teaching demo, I was a little nervous. I also had to carefully divide the time for learning activities with a one-hour session time.   Today, the learning activities are carried out with an opener, topic explanation, discussion, and essay quiz.    I also learned some basic local languages such as greetings to the students so that they can comfortably follow my learning. I was also impressed that they were all culturally polite to me as a teacher even though I was new to the class.   I realize that preparing teaching materials requires careful planning to be properly organized. Day 19 of SEA-Teacher in the Philippines

  Today, September 17, is the nineteenth day of my Seameo Southeast Asia Teacher Practicum in the Philippines. Today I interacted with my buddy, we discussed about my teaching activities tomorrow. I also prepared the lesson plan for my grand demo.    One of the challenges I currently face is when preparing teaching materials, I must be more thorough in preparing lessons.    I also learned some basic local languages so that when teaching grand demos I can interact more actively with students.   I realize that preparing teaching materials requires a careful and organized plan so that learning can run according to goals.    Overall, the nineteenth day of the SEAMEO SEA Teacher Project Practicum was all about grand demo preparation activities. I am very grateful to my buddy who has helped give me direction and positive feedback.

Day 1 of SEA-Teacher in the Philippines

    Today marks the first day of my SEA-Teacher SEAMEO Project Practicum in the Philippines. I started today by looking at the dormitory, the conditions are very comfortable and the staff is also very friendly. In the afternoon I also saw the area around the campus which was very spacious with the facilities available.     One of the challenges I encountered today was the language barrier. Although I have learned some basics in the host country's language, to convey broad conversation is a bit difficult. But I noticed that some of the host country languages ​​have words that are similar to Indonesian. I am excited to improve my understanding of Tagalog.    After dinner, I had the opportunity to interact with one of the UST students who gave me insight into campus education and culture.
